FT mufti urges those involved in “Glamping with Pride” to repent

THE upcoming “Glamping with Pride” event in Hulu Langat has drawn more criticism from religious authorities and conservative groups, who say it conflicts with Islamic values.

Federal Territories mufti Ahmad Fauwaz Fadzil today called for the programme to be cancelled, describing it as promoting pro-LGBTQ elements and indecency among Muslims. He also urges those involved to repent.

“The Federal Territories Mufti Department advises the organisers to cancel or stop any activities that contain elements promoting deviant culture,” he said.

“In fact, every individual or group involved in immoral programmes like this must be subjected to firm action and severe punishment commensurate with the depravity of the immoral acts committed,” Fauwaz added.

“However, if any among those involved wish to repent and regret their actions, know that the door of repentance is always open for those who want to return to their true nature,” he continued in a Tinta Mufti write-up published today.

Organisers, the NGO Jejaka, maintain that the event is a private, community-based retreat focused on wellbeing, peer support, and health awareness, with camping activities held at a registered venue.

The programme includes storytelling, skits, a camp runway show, and an “HIV Hunger Games.” Local PAS Youth and Hulu Langat MP have also voiced opposition. —Jan 11, 2025
