Gaffe-prone Mohamaddin rejects anti-hopping law, gets berated by netizens

EARLIER today, Lahad Datu MP Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi rejected the need for an anti-hopping law, citing freedom of speech and freedom of choice.

He then qualified his views with a bizarre statement; citing lawmakers switch parties “for the sake of the people”.

“We migrate from one party to another for the sake of the people and the country but now we are stopped with the anti-hopping bill,” Free Malaysia Today reported him as saying.

However, the former tourism minister’s statement was ill-received by netizens, with former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak leading the criticism against Mohamaddin.

(Among the great leaders presented by Pakatan Harapan back then. He was a former tourism minister under Pakatan and now with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. He wants to defect but blames the people for it)

Unimpressed with the lawmaker, DAP MP Hannah Yeoh jested:

Netizen Hamirmohd Marican retorted:

(The dumbest minister Malaysia has ever had. He will be remembered by our future generations)

Mohamaddin has courted many controversies even when he was serving a minister. In March 2019, he raised eyebrows at the ITB Berlin travel fair when he told the German media that there were no homosexuals in Malaysia.

“I don’t think we have anything like that in our country,” he was reported as saying.

During the Sabah state election, Mohamaddin also said that COVID-19 was merely a “propaganda” to deter people to come forward to vote.

Rejects “frogs”

During campaigning, the MP drew flak again for claiming that the 2013 Lahad Datu standoff between over 200 Filipino militants and the Malaysian army was just “theatrics”. He later apologised for the comments.

On that note, user Tek Keng Teh said that party-hoppers would use whatever excuses to justify their actions but it was up to the people to reject them.

(The “frogs” will indulge in self-glorification by saying they are doing it for the people. I hope voters will stay away from such characters who are only spitting at the trust given by their parties and the people) – May 9, 2022
