PAKATAN Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has hinted at fielding Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as a candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
“That is the duty of Amir (Amirudin), who wants to take care of Gombak. We will send Selangor main’s commander to Gombak… but this is not an official announcement… officially will be on Oct 28,” he said at the Selangor State Mega Harapan Tour last night.
“I have leaked the question, I discussed it with Amir (Amirudin) and he said ‘I am the commander and I can, insya-Allah, defend it (for PH)’.”
The Gombak parliamentary seat incumbent, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali previously stated his desire to defend the seat in GE15.
The caretaker international trade and industry senior minister has held the Gombak parliamentary seat for three terms, which he won under the PKR ticket.
However, he shifted his allegiance to Bersatu after he was sacked from PKR following the events of the Sheraton Move which saw the fall of the PH government after just 22 months in power.
Meanwhile, Selangor PKR deputy communications director Zainol Abidin Mohamed, in a social media posting, also confirmed that Amirudin is the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Gombak seat.
Zainol who is also the Gombak PKR treasurer, said PH made the right decision to field Amirudin in Gombak.
“The people of Gombak have, since 2008, chosen Pakatan Rakyat and PH with a strong winning majority. This is solid evidence that Gombak is a PH stronghold,” he was reported as saying by FMT.
“Amirudin is the perfect candidate to restore the people’s mandate that has been violated through the Sheraton Move, which saw the Gombak parliamentary seat being treacherously ‘stolen’ without going through a dignified democratic process.” – Oct 27, 2022
