Gen Z job seeker a no-show for interview, “ghosts” potential employer

RECEIVING a call or a text from a potential employer is an exciting thing, especially if it is to notify you about an upcoming job interview or to let you know that you’ve got the job.

However, this is far from the truth for an unfortunate employer who was ‘ghosted’ by a job seeker who had previously sought a job at the former’s company.

“Someone was supposed to come in for a job interview today. He is 19 years old, just finished his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM),” he wrote on social media.

“He was looking for a job. Yesterday he promised to be at the office at 11am. I reached the office at 10.50am.”

Without revealing the name of the company or the position the potential employee had applied for, the man went on to relate how he found out that he was blocked by the potential employee.

“I was taken aback when I realise that I was blocked by someone who was looking for a job,” he lamented.

While the aforementioned might sound appalling, many netizens in the comment section pointed out how it was a norm for many Gen Z job seekers.

Surprisingly, many netizens took to the comments section to share similar experiences, with a netizen even claiming that this was how certain Gen Z-ers communicate – by ghosting or giving people the silent treatment.

So how do you think this can be avoided? Let us know in the comments section! – Oct 22, 2024
