Giving the disabled a chance to contribute to the workforce

MICRON Technology Inc. set a target of employing 50 team members with disabilities in 2021, with 36 hearing-impaired operators already recruited as of last month as part of its Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that was launched in October 2019.

With an aim to embrace diversity and inclusion across its workforce in Malaysia, the ERG provides the team members with disabilities access to resources, technical assistance and support to ensure they can perform their best work.

“We’ve made significant progress ever since we embarked on our diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) journey here in Malaysia, where our team members are creating communities of understanding through their involvement in ERGs such as the Capable, Micron Women Leader’s Network and Micron Young Professionals,” said Micron director of human resource business partner for Malaysia Moorthy Murugaiah.

“Working with the Malaysian Government and Social Security Organisation (Socso) under the PenjanaKerjaya 2.0 hiring incentive programme, we are providing equal job opportunities to individuals with disabilities from all walks of life,” he added.

The 36 operators with hearing impairment were recruited to be based at Micron’s sites in Muar, Johor and Prai, Penang. – Feb 17, 2021
