Glocomp, NetApp partnership targets secure data foundations for Malaysia’s AI ambitions

HOME-GROWN Glocomp Systems (M) Sdn Bhd has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with NetApp Malaysia Sdn Bhd to jointly deliver secure, artificial intelligence (AI)-ready data infrastructure solutions as Malaysia steps up efforts to position itself as an AI-driven digital economy.

Through the collaboration, the premier ICT infrastructure distributor and solution provider will offer NetApp’s latest enterprise data infrastructure technologies designed to support artificial AI workloads across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

The joint offering aims to help organisations modernise how they manage and use data while meeting growing expectations around security, sovereignty and regulatory compliance.

Key components of the collaboration include NetApp AFX, a disaggregated all-flash storage system built to support intensive AI workloads and NetApp’s AI Data Engine (AIDE), a data services platform designed to simplify, secure and scale AI adoption.

The solutions will be delivered to both public and private sector organisations in Malaysia. In NetApp ASEAN senior director Angeline Lim’s words, the partnership reflects a shared focus on enabling responsible AI innovation through strong data foundations.

“By working with Glocomp, we are combining global technology capabilities with strong local expertise to help Malaysian organisations build intelligent, secure data infrastructure that can support AI innovation at scale,” she asserted.

The collaboration is expected to strengthen Glocomp’s ability to deliver an end-to-end, locally managed offering that brings together data infrastructure, cybersecurity services and incident response, according to its managing director Joseph Giam.

“This tie-up enables us to support organisations, particularly those in government and critical infrastructure as they navigate digital transformation with greater confidence. It aligns closely with Malaysia’s aspiration to become an AI Nation by 2030,” he enthused.

Giam added that the joint offering is designed to simplify security management while ensuring organisations retain control over sensitive data.

In essence, the partnership also places strong emphasis on cyber resilience by combining NetApp’s secure data management technologies with Glocomp’s cybersecurity expertise.

Together, both partners aim to help organisations strengthen their ability to protect data, respond to cyber incidents and maintain operational continuity.

Three core focus areas underpin the collaboration: data sovereignty, compliance and cyber resilience.

On data sovereignty, the solutions are designed to keep data within Malaysian borders and under Malaysian jurisdiction, thus addressing concerns around foreign access laws and national security considerations.

In terms of compliance, the joint offering aims to support audit readiness, documentation and reporting requirements, hence enabling organisations reduce operational complexity while meeting regulatory expectations.

The cyber resilience initiatives will focus on improving detection, response and recovery capabilities through a more integrated approach to data protection.
