Gov’t trimming down the number of bazaars to curb infections

FOR most Malaysians, fasting month is a time to look forward to considering all the street foods that would be made available on a daily basis at bazaars.

But since the number of COVID-19 cases have shot up significantly during this Ramadhan month, a total of 22 Ramadhan bazaars around the country were ordered to cease from operating to curb any further infections.

Just today, there were a total of 3,788 new COVID-19 cases reported, with Selangor reporting the highest number of cases at 1,265, followed by Sarawak (760), Kelantan (464), Kuala Lumpur (255), Penang (250), Johor (160), Negri Sembilan (136), Kedah (136) and Perak (118).

The number of deaths reported today was also on the high spectrum, standing at 14 people (total 1,506).

However, 2,640 patients have recovered from the virus and were discharged today, adding to the total of 377,980.

Additionally, 328 patients are in intensive care units with 161 of them in need of ventilator support. – April 30, 2021
