Gov’ts come and go but nations remain as it is, Zahid tells critics

UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today lashed out at those who claimed that the country would become dysfunctional if the Perikatan Nasional Government collapses.

“This is untrue and the sentiment is being created by an irresponsible propaganda team in their attempt to scare the people.

“These vested interests are coming from those who are desperate to hold on to their power and positions,” he said in a Facebook post.

Recently, Zahid announced that Umno is withdrawing support from the Government due to the latter’s failure on containing COVID-19 and insolence towards the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Despite initially receiving unanimous support from its supreme council, the move created a deep divide within Umno, between those aligned to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Zahid.

Yesterday, over 31 MPs from Barisan Nasional (BN) announced that they will stay with the Prime Minister including those who earlier supported Zahid such as Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

On that note, Zahid said that even without a Government, public administration led by its various chief secretaries will ensure that the country continues running as usual.

“When BN fell in May 2018, the country’s administration ran as usual. The same happened when the Pakatan Harapan Government collapsed in February last year.

“So, I find it highly irresponsible for these quarters to spread such misinformation to confuse the rakyat,” the Bagan Datuk MP concluded. – Aug 7, 2021
