GSC to refund movie-goers after fire broke out at part of Mid Valley Megamall

GOLDEN Screen Cinemas (GSC) Sdn Bhd has lived up to its reputation as the No. 1 cinema in Malaysia by swiftly informing movie-goers via social media that its cinema will be temporarily closed following a fire at the Mid Valley Megamall KL this morning.

While GSC cinema is not directly affected, the cinema operator said it is cooperating with local authorities and the mall’s management to ensure everyone’s safety.

“As such, all shows at GSC Mid Valley KL will be cancelled and the cinema will be temporarily closed until further notice. We will be issuing refunds for all purchased tickets,” GSC pointed out in its latest Facebook post.

“If you have purchased the tickets online, you will be automatically refunded within 14 working days. If you have purchased the tickets on ground, please keep the ticket and return to cinema once we open for a refund within seven days.”

Meanwhile, a Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department spokesman has confirmed to Malay Mail that a fire had broken out at Mid Valley Megamall this morning.

“The fire involves a TNB (Tenaga Nasional Bhd) substation. We will be releasing a statement shortly,” he said in a brief reply via WhatsApp to the news portal.

Several videos and photos of the fire are being circulated on social media. Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick smoke engulfing the structure, obstructing visibility while some reported of seeing the ‘Bomba’ dousing the fire with ‘water canon’. – May 17, 2023
