THE DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) remain committed to the Pakatan Harapan coalition despite differences with PKR, in terms of the banner used for the upcoming Johor state election.
“Both Amanah and DAP will not abandon Pakatan. We still have three Pakatan state governments of Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan to deliver for the rakyat.
“For this reason, both Amanah and DAP will not ditch the coalition logo, which would have been perceived as abandoning our effort to regain the Federal Government,” Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng said, in a statement.
Yesterday, Pakatan Harapan announced that it would be expanding its cooperation for the upcoming Johor state polls, with Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) possibly joining hands with the coalition.
However, in a twist, it was also announced that while Amanah and DAP would be contesting under the coalition banner, PKR said that it would be using its own party logo instead.
“PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be writing to the Election Commission (EC) so as to the inform the electoral body to hand over the authority to nominate Pakatan candidates to DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu,” they were reported as saying.
Still talking to PKR, MUDA
Touching on the matter, Lim and Mohamad opined that having a common logo to battle against Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional would be the best choice, as it would help voters to identify their candidates better in a crowded field of political coalitions and parties.
With that said, the duo said they will continue to engage PKR and MUDA so as to offer a united front to secure victory in the state polls.
“The people of Johor must not allow the Government to escape unpunished for their failures in managing the pandemic, economic recession, the serial total lockdowns which caused more than RM500 bil in financial losses.
“And BN and Perikatan should also be punished for the unending political crisis and instability and flood disaster that took 55 lives and cost RM20 bil in economic losses, as well as escalating corruption scandals,” the remarked. – Jan 27, 2022
