MARANG MP Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s absence from the Dewan Rakyat proceedings today was due to heart problems and several other ailments, said PAS spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin.
FMT quoted Hashim as saying that Hadi, 76, was advised by his doctors against travelling and is currently recuperating in Terengganu.
“Given his age, he suffers from various health issues. He has been making frequent visits to the National Heart Institute (IJN),” the news portal reported him as saying when asked about Hadi’s well-being.
For the record, Hadi was absent during the opening ceremony of the 15th Parliament’s third session, which saw Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim delivering his maiden address to the Dewan Rakyat since being sworn in as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 31.
According to Hashim, a meeting of the PAS Syura Council also had to be postponed due to Hadi’s poor health.
“Hadi’s press secretary informed us about this. We haven’t been able to fix a date for the PAS Syura Council to meet,” he was reported as saying.
“Many party activities have also been postponed as he (Hadi) hasn’t been able to attend them.”
However, Hashim said Hadi was still actively writing statements, giving the public the impression that he was in good health.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also confirmed that Hadi is unable to attend Dewan Rakyat proceedings this week.
“He is on medical leave for four days. His health doesn’t permit him to attend (Parliament) this week,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hadi’s political secretary Syahir Che Sulaiman told the news portal that Hadi is still recovering in Terengganu after undergoing treatment.
He submitted a letter, along with the medical certificate (MC), to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker (Tan Sri Johari Abdul) yesterday to inform him of this,” the Bachok MP said. – Feb 26, 2024
