PAS leader Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and his party have softened their hardline approach during the Chinese New Year.
Hadi said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Jan 22) that he has many ‘adopted’ uncles and siblings from the Chinese community.
“The Chinese are not strangers in my life,” said Hadi.
He added that his grandfather had many adopted children from the Chinese, whether they embraced Islam or not.
“They became part of my family. When the World War II happened, there were Chinese refugees who came to the East Coast. My grandfather once rescued a non-Muslim Chinese refugee and hid him in his garden, at that time he was a village chief,” he penned in a Facebook post.
Besides, Hadi also has a Chinese son-in-law, and he posted photos of his extended family celebrating the Chinese New Year.
He further added that after the celebrations in Kuala Lumpur with the leaders of Perikatan Nasional and Gerakan on Sunday morning,
“I went straight back to Kampung Rusila to celebrate the Chinese New Year with my son-in-law and family,” Hadi further added after the celebrations in Kuala Lumpur with the leaders of Perikatan Nasional and Gerakan on Sunday morning.
Moreover, the PAS president went on record last year saying that non-Muslims were the main culprits in the spread of corruption in Malaysia. This raised a series of complaints from netizens who attacked Hadi, saying his party is racist and is also corrupt.
Hadi did not bring any evidence of what he said about the non-Muslims but was brought in to give a statement to the police after several reports were made against him for an attempt to stir communal conflicts in the country.
On the other hand, PAS supporters posted several pictures and videos showing children from the PASTI kindergarten going on rounds in residential areas, wishing the Chinese community a happy new year. — Jan 23, 2023
