Hadi meeting the Taliban: Salahuddin is a confused man, PAS leader says

PAS criticised Parti Amanah Negara’s deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub for accusing the former’s president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang of “jumping the gun” in meeting Taliban officials in Qatar.

“Salahuddin’s confusion triggered his knee-jerk reaction. What is he trying to say her3? Hadi’s visit in Qatar is not about recognising Taliban’s legitimacy but to offer humanitarian aid. Besides, his visit received the blessing from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“It’s nothing unusual as the whole world is now having dialogue with Afghanistan’s new government, including the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU), the US, China and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC),” said Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria, in Harakah Daily

On Feb 4, Hadi, who is also the Special Envoy to the Middle East, met representatives from the Afghanistan’s Taliban Government in Doha, Qatar.

It was said that the Marang MP had promised to provide humanitarian aid to the country, which is now struggling with famine and economic collapse soon after the US forces withdrew last year.

It is to note that Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah had said that Malaysia was not in hurry to recognise Taliban’s legitimacy and was awaiting the UN’s move last year.

Yesterday, Salahuddin accused Hadi of “jumping the gun” in announcing support for Afghanistan’s Taliban government.

“Foreign policy is set by Wisma Putra and the foreign minister. Hadi has jumped the gun exceeding his capacity.

“Hadi seems to have exceeded his capacity in making such announcement and commitment,” Malaysiakini reported the former minister as saying.

Salahuddin being pushed by shadowy figures

Touching on the matter, Razman insinuated that Salahuddin’s may have been told by certain quarters to criticise Hadi on the matter.

“Is there a ‘remote control’ that told him to lash out at our president? Nevertheless, EU itself had said that any dialogue with the Taliban does not imply recognition but is part of its operational engagement.

“In fact, many other countries have already started providing aid to Afghanistan such as Germany and the Netherlands, where they sending supplies to teachers and doctors there,” he remarked. – Feb 7, 2022.
