Hadi urges UMNO to cooperate with PAS to form a new government

PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang stated that UMNO has significantly weakened electorally since parting with PAS, as evidenced by a sharp decline in Malay votes during the GE15.

Hadi said UMNO leaders should cooperate with PAS instead of PH in forming the government to strengthen Islamic influence.

He contrasted this with PAS’s gain in Malay support and criticised UMNO for aligning with PH.

“During the recent war (election), UMNO has become weaker and weaker since separating from PAS. Now, PAS has gained Malay votes, while UMNO’s Malay votes have plummeted,” he said.

“DAP has secured non-Muslim votes. The supporting (PH) parties have also gained non-Muslim votes,” Hadi added.

He further urged voters in the Ayer Kuning by-election to choose a credible candidate to address ongoing political issues.

According to Hadi, as a Muslim-majority country, political victory is crucial for governing and administering power.

“In Malaysia, Malays, who are predominantly muslim, have the right to lead. This does not mean we deny the rights of non-Muslims,” said Hadi, adding that non-muslims are allowed to live in an Islamic country and participate in the government, but the highest political power must be led by muslims. —Apr 20, 2025
