Hair-raising video of child having seizure prompts first aid discussion among netizens

YOUNG and inexperienced parents will have a frightful time to find their babies experiencing seizure which is quite a common occurrence among children.

In a video posted on X by netizen Dr Samhan, viewers can understand why this can be a scary moment.

The child in the video could be seen shaking while his body was locked frozen, not a scene parents without medical knowledge would like to encounter.

Dr Samhan said that during this moment, it was vital to keep them away from any dangerous objects nearby, such as scissors, hot water, and so on.

“Turn the child onto their side into the recovery position. Ensure the child remains in this position as long as the seizure continues. This prevents the child from choking on milk or vomit that may enter the airway,” he advised in the comment section.

The seizure treatment guide-post has since gained huge traction in cyberspace, with over 8,600 shares.

“Do not restrain the movements of the arms and legs during the seizure. Hold gently to maintain the side position. Do not shake them! Avoid placing spoons or similar objects in their mouth, as this can cause choking! Loosen and remove their clothing, leaving only the nappy,” he added.

Parents with seizure-prone children better be taking notes because the doctor is in the house.

Dr Samhan further advised to wipe the entire body with a towel and warm water. He warned against using cold water as warm water is able to expand the blood vessels in the skin, allowing more heat to escape.

“This will help effectively reduce body heat and lower the fever. Turn on a fan, as this will aid in the evaporation of water into the air more quickly,” he said. – Oct 25, 2024
