Halal logo on bread product by GISB not legitimate: JAKIM

IT would appear that the clotted blood and water used to wash the feet of  Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) spiritual leaders are but a scratch on the surface of this religious organisation.

Recently, Pusat Kajian Ajaran Sesat (PUKAS) questioned if the Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) halal logo on the bread products by Global Ikhwan Utara was legitimate.

In a post on X by Buletin TV 3, JAKIM clarified that the products in fact did not possess a Sijil Pengesahan Halal Malaysia (SPHM).

Now one would wonder why a seemingly islamic organisation would require a halal certificate or had trouble getting one in the first place.

For those unaware, the absence of pork is but one of the many qualifying features of a halal product. Cleanliness of the premises is also of vital importance for any business owner looking to get a halal certificate.

“Examination through the Portal Halal Malaysia revealed that the product did not have a valid SPHM,” JAKIM said in a statement, adding that they had communicated with the Ministry Of Domestic Trade And Cost Of Living and Jabatan Agama Islam Negeri-Negeri to take actions against the product.

Here is the statement from JAKIM for further reference.

With news floating about that followers of GISB were keeping clotted blood and water used to wash the feet of their spiritual leaders, one cannot help but wonder if their food product contains such ingredients.

Therefore, GISB has all the reasons to get a halal certificate to fight the rising negative narrative. But looking at the firestorm of negative publicity against them, we have to say that this is the least of their problems.

According to netizen amat, the Mufti of Perlis stated that the association has been reported to JAKIM for many years yet no action has been taken. Only when the news has gotten viral that JAKIM is looking to do something.

Another netizen wondered how many thousands of litres of “blessed water” from Abuya’s beard had already been sprayed and added into the bread mixture.

One netizen voiced his concerns about the authenticity of halal logos in the future of GISB could blatantly use it for their products.

We find it ironic that with all that rage going about that local businesses need to have a halal certificate to cater to non-muslims, here comes the GISB with their many dubious practices operating for years with an illegitimate halal certificate.

JAKIM will need to do more homework in the future. As for the news about GISB followers keeping clotted blood and water used to wash the feet of their spiritual leaders, they have more reason than others to get that halal certificate. And JAKIM better be there to make sure about it. – Sept 17, 2024
