Hamzah squashes rumours of discord with Muhyiddin

BERSATU secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has refuted claims suggesting a strained relationship between him and party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Talks about two factions in Bersatu are deliberately meant to create friction within the party and Perikatan Nasional (PN), according to Hamzah.

“If Muhyiddin does not like me, he could have sacked me as the secretary-general, but did that happen?

“I’m the secretary-general, Muhyiddin is the president, he appointed me to this post. If I don’t like him, I can resign, and if he doesn’t like me, he can sack me,” Hamzah told reporters after attending a ceramah in Simpang Pelangai near Bentong last night (Oct 4).

The ceramah (religious talk) attended by approximately 200 people also saw the presence of Pahang PN chairperson Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah and PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

Previously, Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu had also denied talks of friction between the party leadership, as reported by some news portals. Hamzah said contrary to such claims, all is still well inside Bersatu.

“People talk but we are still good to each other; we are working and campaigning for the election.”

Moreover, Hamzah also addressed concerns regarding threats faced by his PN colleagues and supporters intending to participate in coalition’s ceramah.

“Yes, last night I heard my friends say that they were afraid to attend (PN ceramah) as they received threats in many forms. To me, campaigning and talking to voters is a democratic practice. There is no need to threaten anyone,” he alleged.

However, the Larut MP did not provide any concrete evidence to support his claim. He reassured his associates that they need not fear attending PN ceramah, as everyone has the freedom of speech in a democratic country. – Oct 5, 2023
