Hangry hawker bites DBKL officer: Fasting cancelled?

IT IS completely normal for people to get very hungry during the fasting month. But that really is no excuse for someone to bite another person.

Recently, a very hungry, or rather, hangry, hawker bit a DBKL officer because her stall was closed down for not having a license. The bite left a deep mark on the officer’s arm and was bloody.

According to news portal Kosmo, the DBKL enforcer endured the pain for several minutes before several of his colleagues managed to help her escape the bite of the trader.

Despite the severity of the wound, it is hard not to make light of the situation with the many comedy reactions from the online community.

Several netizen compared the lady hawker to an animal, as stated by F&F_Eva who said, “This is too much. Like a wild dog, obstructing the work of the government officers.”

Then there was Atan Je,Dah who said she may have rabies. Another netizen suggested that Perhilitan, or the wildlife department be informed so that they could perform the necessary action.

“Where are the animal lovers? Not going to back her up?” Parista pointed out.

“The zombie of Kampung Pisang may have escaped,” said one netizen, a reference to a local movie in the past.

The winning comment, however, goes to FI who said, “I am hungry too, but this is not the way.”

“Must be hungry. Let her eat a slap,” said Hail Amer, perhaps in reply to FI. Several others suggested she celebrate Hari Raya in prison or that she be tasered to reset her brain.

Previously, however, the biting hawker received sympathy from the online community who said the officers should have been more lenient to those looking to make a living, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.

On a separate note, does this mean that the hawker has effectively cancelled her fasting? Regardless, we would like to remind her that humans are friends, not food. —Mar 7, 2025
