Hannah Yeoh’s book is is hotly debated online, to the detriment of detractors

SHOULD Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh take legal action against Mohd Sophian Mohd Zain?

Apparently the activist accused her of using her position to spread Christian proselytisation through her book “Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey.”

This is a question that many in social media are discussing. Sophian, who has previously sparked controversy, made these allegations during a speech and on Facebook.

He also criticised the Madani government and called for Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be granted house arrest.

“Hannah Yeoh… is using her position as Minister… her position as a Member of Parliament… the parliamentary service center, used for what?

“To spread proselytising messages…,” claimed Sophian, who was once a panelist in a program organised by PAS in Penang.

Critics, including TikToker Taufiq Iskandar, highlighted that the book, published in 2014 during a PAS-DAP collaboration in Selangor, did not raise issues at the time.

Taufiq questioned the motives behind the criticism and whether it was politically driven, adding that the claims about the book undermining faith were baseless.

“There was no issue back then, was there? So why is it a problem now?

“From 2014 until now, how many Muslims have been influenced by Hannah Yeoh to convert to Christianity?” Taufik retorted, with many agreeing with his view.

The issue has reignited opposition narratives about DAP leaders allegedly seeking to Christianise Malaysia, despite many dismissing these accusations as incitement.

Calls for police action against Sophian have grown in response to his inflammatory remarks. —Jan 19, 2025
