Harakah: As unity gov’t clocks 100 days, Anwar has lied that petrol price will come down

PAS mouthpiece HarakahDaily has ushered in the 100th day in office of the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN)-led unity government by berating the failure of Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to fulfil a host of promises starting with failure to reduce price of the RON95 petrol.

Further pouring kerosene into its criticism, the Malay language news portal chided Anwar for promising in a video clip posted on social media that “… not 20 days, two weeks but 24 hours (after coming to power), I’ll announced that oil prices has come down”.

“Unfortunately, after almost 100 days of Anwar serving as PM, the price of RON95 petrol in the market has not changed at RM2.05/litre. What has happened?” questioned Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir who is the editor of HarakahDaily.

“Surely the failure to lower the price of oil for the people is a signal that Anwar has indeed lied to them.”

Given that it is seemingly impossible to lower oil prices at will in today’s challenging market conditions whoever the PM is, the PAS mouthpiece claimed that Anwar has been deceptive by making false promises to his PH supporters.

“At least the people who voted and supported PH expect Anwar to be able to bring about big changes once he becomes the PM, especially in dealing with the cost of living problems,” it noted.

“Today, after 100 days of Anwar reigning as PM, the people’s complaints are only getting stronger and louder. Food prices have kept rising in the market. The supply of chicken eggs was affected and their prices haven’t come down since.”

Added HarakahDaily: “The demand of the B40 group to be allowed to make savings withdrawals from their EPF (Employee Provident Fund) accounts was once again squarely rejected without any option or helpful alternative.”

Amid the slew of failures and weaknesses, the PAS mouthpiece pointed out that the people are now wary if Anwar is actually capable of assuming the Prime Ministership portfolio.

“The people are aware that alongside him in both the Cabinet and his unity government is not just BN with 30 seats but the more dominant DAP with a strength of 40 seats,” highlighted HarakahDaily.

“Does Anwar have the strength and political ability to control DAP’s extreme political ambition or will he finally bow down because it is the strength of DAP and BN that gave him the opportunity to sit on the PM’s chair that he had longed for?” – Feb 26, 2023
