Hard work can lead to renewed hopes and second chances

IT IS always heartbreaking to read about the plight of young men and women whose ambitions and dreams of furthering their studies are hampered by the harsh realities of life.

The latest story to tug at the heartstrings of Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker, Deputy Minister of National Unity is that of Tushan a/l Mohan, whose poverty-stricken family could not afford to pay for his tertiary education.

The brilliant and passionate young man previously worked as a promoter, whose low income was barely sufficient to get him through the month.

His diligence was further put to the ultimate test when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, and he lost his job.

While he has since then gotten another job as a waiter at a café in Raub, Pahang, it is hardly any surprise that his income has been greatly affected by the national movement control order.

But when all hope seemed lost, Tushan was referred to the TLK Scholarship Programme (sponsored by SEGi University and worth RM1 mil), with hopes of obtaining a scholarship to pursue his undergraduate degree. Datuk Seri Ti immediately recommended him a full scholarship.

And the story does have a happy ending after all – Tushan has since been awarded a full scholarship from SEGi University to study business management, and is well on his way to fulfilling his dreams! – June 19, 2021
