Harith Iskandar’s wife files for divorce, news gets tongues wagging on social media

FAMOUS stand-up comedian Harith Iskander’s wife Dr Jezamine Lim confirmed that she had filed for divorce at the Federal Territories Shariah Lower Court last month.

A photo has surfaced showing Lim outside the courthouse in a robe and headscarf, accompanied by Shariah lawyer Datuk Akberdien Abdul Kadir, who has previously represented several local artists in similar cases.

The 41-year-old medical entrepreneur confirmed that the divorce case will be mentioned in court soon.

“Yes, I have already filed. The hearing is on July 15 at the Kuala Lumpur Shariah Court,” she said via the WhatsApp application to Malaysiakini yesterday (July 10).

However, Lim did not elaborate on the cause of the rift in their marriage.

Harith and Jezamine got married on June 12, 2010. The couple was blessed with three children, Zander Xayne, 14, Alessandra Jayne, 11, and Zydane Zayne, 9.

Meanwhile, Harith has not made any public comment on the issue.

The news has been widely reported, and netizens were quick to voice their two cents. This is a sample of what is being said.

Some expressed sadness at the news and wished the couple the best in resolving the matter amicably.

A few pointed out that even a famous comic could not prevent his wife from leaving.

While one bemoaned that this case means that the myth of ‘beautiful women falling for funny guys’ is patently untrue.

This being social media, it did not take long for some tasteless remarks to pop up.

With more than a few taking cheap shots at the comedian’s antics and stand-up routines.

One netizen took the opportunity to bash PAS, saying the Islamist party would frown upon highly educated ladies.

Sad reality is that being a celebrity (or being married to one) means private matters are public record. Worse yet, in the age of social media, many will find it necessary to cast aspersions.

FocusM  would like to remind you that these individuals are human beings too, and there are young children involved. As pointed out by one netizen, they should be left to pick up the pieces and move on with their lives without every minutiae being examined in the harsh light of social media. – July 11, 2024
