Have gun will travel in ‘wild’ Puchong; netizens bewildered how guns are so easily accessible

THE slightest provocation could get you a bullet in your head for your troubles. Yes, that’s right. Look at someone wrong or tell them off for smoking in a food court could get you shot.

That’s what a CCTV clip of an argument in a Puchong food court appears to suggest as a man reacts badly to being told off by the food court manager for puffing away.

He is seen gesturing towards to an object that appears to be a firearm tucked under his shirt and pointing at the complainant.

The clip was shared on the X platform by UpdateInfo (@update11111) who exclaimed in amazement the apparent cause of the ruckus.

The many comments also reflect the disbelief that a simple request to stop smoking in a makan area had led to such a flashpoint.

Some asked where and how such gun ownership was even possible.

With a few insinuating that under-counter money allows for such individuals to gain gun permits.

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that a report had been lodged over the incident and all three persons in the video have been picked up for further investigations.

“The incident occurred at about 10pm on Oct 13 at a food court in Puchong,” confirmed Serdang OCPD Asst Comm A.A. Anbalagan on Friday (Oct 18). “An investigation led to the arrests of the three suspects. One of the suspects had a prior criminal record.”

“We also seized an object resembling a pistol with a magazine and two bullets (white pallets),” he added.

He reminded the public not to speculate on the incident.

That may be wishful thinking in the age of social media but the public has a right to know how if there was a real firearm involved and if the perpetrator had the requisite license to carry one. And if he did, why are such hotheads allowed to brandish weapons.

In the meantime, the perception continues that Puchong – despite huge development in recent years – remains some sort of “cowboy town”. – Oct 21, 2024
