Health coalition: Health Minister’s threat is ‘indecent’

THE Malaysian Alliance for Effective COVID Control (MAECC) expressed their dismay over the “indecent threat” that Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar has made on Saturday (Oct 16) concerning those who refuse to be inoculated against COVID-19.

Khairy had said that the Government will “continue to make life difficult” for those who are not vaccinated by choice.

However, he said those who cannot be vaccinated due to health reasons will be fine as they would be provided with MySejahtera digital exemption.

Accusing Khairy of crossing the “bounds of ministerial decency” when he made the statement, the coalition had further called the statement “insensitive”, especially coming from a minister.

“This minister had on numerous occasions, including statements made in Parliament, gave assurances that this injection will not be made mandatory,” it pointed out.

“While the current declining infection and death rates are a relief, it is too soon to celebrate and too soon to claim victory for the vaccination programme.

“In fact, the Health Minister himself mentioned that the SARS-CoV-2 has become endemic, and we must live with it.

“Natural immunity through past infection has also significantly contributed to the declining rates too, besides the COVID-19 vaccines.”

Focus on other pressing matters

MAECC further opined that Khairy should be directing his attention to other pressing matters such as breakthrough infections rather than issuing threats against the people.

“He should be concerned with the surge in the Delta variant affecting both the vaccinated and the unvaccinated, alongside the fact that those who have been vaccinated are still capable of spreading the virus.

“There are now several scientific reports stating that those who have been vaccinated carry higher viral loads as compared to the unvaccinated.”

According to MAECC, Khairy has stopped reporting ICU admissions in hospital for the fully vaccinated since Sept 9 and prior to that there has been an average of 40 cases a day concerning those who have been fully vaccinated.

This thus contradicts the claim that vaccines could prevent severe COVID-19 infections.

“Withholding of key information regarding COVID-19, especially regarding ICU admission and serious adverse reactions within days and weeks after the vaccine shots is unwise.

“The minister and health ministry officials have an obligation to disclose all key information.”

Citing Sarawak as an example, MAECC further noted that current data from the Health Ministry had indicated that the states with the highest vaccination rates and had completed their vaccination ahead of other states were seeing a rise in infection rates.

“The data shows more than half of the daily COVID-19 cases involve those who were fully vaccinated. This trend is also seen in other countries like Israel, Singapore and the UK.

“Vaccination as a single-track strategy is doomed to fail if these trends are repeated here.”

“Misleading, insincere and factually incorrect”

According to the MAECC, the Government’s continuous accusation that unvaccinated individuals are putting others at risk is misleading, insincere and factually incorrect and this includes Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s cautioning of teachers in a speech in Pahang on Oct 17.

The coalition further pointed to recent news that vaccinated young people are developing myocarditis.

“Worldwide, there are several reports on this subject, and it is worrying as myocarditis is a prelude to future and more serious heart disease conditions.

“Meanwhile, there are also accusations of COVID-19 vaccines containing graphene oxide.

“Independent laboratories have confirmed traces of graphene oxide and the presence of heavy metals in the vaccines. Again, remaining silent on such reports is unwarranted.”

MAECC also opined that the Health Minister should also be very concerned with potential medium- and long-term harm associated with the vaccine shots.

“He and his officials should be closely monitoring for indications and unfortunate events in the months ahead.

“We pray that no such event will happen, but data from the US, UK and Europe should make us all very concerned.”

Stop threatening the people!

Urging the Health Minister and the Government to stop threatening the people, MAECC suggested the authorities “respect the individual’s wish whether one wants to be vaccinated”.

“We have achieved more than 90% vaccination rate for the adult population, and with more than 67% of the population fully vaccinated, we are among the most vaccinated countries in the world.

“At this rate, and with millions expected to acquire natural immunity, our nation should already have achieved herd immunity.

“Combating this COVID-19 epidemic must involve all, be transparent and not a single-track, autocratic passage of information.” – Oct 18, 2021
