“Initially, my family and I weren’t too worried because in the 28 years that we’ve lived here, floods happened frequently but the water would only rise to knee level,” he told the national news agency when met at his residence.

“This time, we couldn’t do anything as the water rose very quickly. At 10.30 am, when I checked outside, the water was only ankle-deep but within an hour, it surged past one metre. There was no time to salvage the cars.”

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has that said the cause of the flood would be investigated with remedial measures to be taken to prevent a recurrence. Sunday’s (Dec 1) flood is considered the worst in 30 years.

Apart from his five cars, Amaluddin also suffered additional losses from damage to household appliances and furniture.

On this note, he called for collaboration from various parties, particularly the Ipoh City Council (MBI), to ensure similar incidents do not recur.  – Dec 4, 2024
