Hero or villain Fahmi Reza arrives at Bukit Aman for his “first date” with cops in 2024

CONTROVERSIAL satirist Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin a.k.a. Fahmi Reza has been summoned to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) headquarters in Bukit Aman this morning (Dec 19) for questioning over a satirical political graphic that he had posted on Facebook.

In a Facebook post yesterday (Dec 18), the political graphic designer, street artist and documentary filmmaker said he was being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 504 of the Penal Code.

The 47-year-old cartoonist who made a mark during the Najib administration by depicting the now incarcerated sixth premier as a clown in a caricature is no stranger to being on the wrong side of the law by having been in and out of police stations for portraying corrupt high-profile politicians in a satirical manner.

Most recently, Fahmi Reza claimed that his TikTok account was permanently banned when he was livestreaming a Student Power lecture session at the Universiti Malaya campus on the history of student activism against the authorities and the government.

“Banned from TikTok! ✊🏼 … First, TikTok blocked my live session, then they banned my account,” he berated while displaying a screenshot of his TikTok account prior to the banning.

Although his TikTok account has been restored, FocusM observed that Fahmi Reza’s lewd-looking caricature of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim licking an UMNO logo bearing the caption “Hello Anwar Ibrahim. When are you going to revoke #AktaSakitHati (referring to the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998) has been removed.

Therefore, this could be the key reason for his date with the cops this morning (Dec 19) as many detractors teased Fahmi Reza who has recently resurfaced after two years in hiatus that he has been ditched by the ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) government whom he had wholeheartedly backed to topple the then Barisan Nasional (BN) rule in 2018.

In fact, one commenter claimed that Fahmi Reza is making a fuss as “payment has yet to come in”, an insinuation that PH has been secretly paying him to keep his mouth shut.

Detractors aside, Fahmi Reza does have his fair share of multi-racial fan base who truly look up to him as a political activist who can be relied upon to fight for their welfare and well-being.

While one deemed lady Chinese business owner hailed him as “abang hero”, many Sabahans are begging Fahmi Reza to convey the dissatisfaction of Sabahans over the appointment of Tun Musa Aman as Sabah’s new governor. – Dec 19, 2024
