DATIN Seri Rosmah Mansor has been ordered by the High Court to place RM67.4 mil into a joint stakeholder account within 30 days while awaiting the outcome of her appeal in a lawsuit brought by Lebanese jeweller Global Royalty Trading SAL.
The case concerns the value of 43 jewellery pieces that the company claimed had been delivered to Rosmah but were never returned.
Judicial Commissioner Marianne Antoinette Ghani ruled that Rosmah’s argument that the judgment amount was too substantial for an individual to pay was insufficient grounds to suspend enforcement of the judgment.
She had also argued that the jewellery was seized during a police raid involving a third party.
Rosmah’s lawyers had previously maintained that Global Royalty, being a foreign company without business operations or assets in Malaysia, could potentially move or dissipate the money outside the country if the appeal were successful.
Reza Rahim represented Rosmah, while Datuk David Gurupatham appeared for Global Royalty.
The dispute involves 44 pieces of high-end jewellery valued at RM67,461,027.37 (US$14.57 mil).
Global Royalty said the items were sent to Rosmah in 2018 under a consignment arrangement for her to view.
The Lebanese company subsequently initiated legal action in 2023, seeking either the return of the jewellery or payment equivalent to their value.
It claimed the pieces were supplied on consignment but were not returned after being seized during a police raid at Pavilion Residences in 2018.
Of the jewellery involved, only one piece, a diamond and emerald bracelet, was eventually recovered and returned to Global Royalty following separate forfeiture proceedings.—Aug 12, 2026
