THE Institute for Strategic Analysis and Policy Research (INSAP) has welcomed the historic meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, calling it a timely reaffirmation of the enduring Malaysia-China friendship.
The research house’s director Woon King Chai said the signing of 31 Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) speaks not only to the breadth of bilateral cooperation, but also to the depth of trust that has grown between both nations over the past five decades.
“While the details of each MOU are still unfolding, this moment offers a critical opportunity for all stakeholders, such as businesses, local communities, researchers and civil society, to collectively engage, understand and help shape how these agreements translate into real benefits for Malaysians,” he stated.
“From trade and infrastructure to tourism, agriculture and technology transfer, these MOUs represent the scaffolding upon which future growth and collaboration will be built.”
Woon said at the heart of it, both nations share a vision of inclusive development, one where strategic cooperation uplifts people, creates meaningful jobs and drives innovation while respecting national priorities and local needs.
“As Malaysia continues its journey as ASEAN Chair, we believe that such initiatives set a strong example of how countries can achieve win-win outcomes through dialogue, mutual respect and shared purpose,” he continued.
“INSAP remains committed to supporting these efforts by contributing informed research, facilitating constructive conversations and ensuring that our bilateral future is guided not just by big numbers but by real impact felt on the ground.”
President Xi began the three-day state visit to Malaysia on Tuesday at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
The visit is Xi’s second official visit to Malaysia in 12 years, after the first in 2013, which saw the two countries upgrade diplomatic relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. – April 17, 2025
