Hollowness and hypocritical rhetoric will not save this nation

Letter to Editor

THE advent of COVID-19 has brought a spiritual awakening to the current 7.8 billion souls living on this planet Earth. The effect varies from one individual soul to another.

However, since the health crisis of the Spanish flu 100 years ago, which the present generation is devoid of, is a remarkable episode of reckoning to mankind.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said that Malaysia has the highest debt after Sri Lanka with US$1.4 tril, with corruption being rampant, inflated civil service and data of 22.5 million from 1940 to 2004 being sold for US$10,000.

Our nation is in a very precarious situation which requires very bold, effective and efficient approaches to find solutions.

Does mankind need such a rude awakening, a jerk and a jolt which will give rise to fresh philosophers, poems, poetry, literature and many more for our current social reality which is misplaced and hijacked by various quarters since the first world war?

Transforming the fabric of social reality will definitely give birth to cohesive, coherent and inclusive oneness in all dimensions of human endeavour whether it is to be religion, race or anything which divides mankind.

Moreover, nations of the world need to reflect and question themselves of their respective social reality. If they are sincere in their reflections, they will discover the elements which are required to to be tinkered, tweeted or even fresh elements to be introduced to create the futuristic harmonious society which will harmonious with the nation and the world at large.

Continuing with the present trajectory of adhoc laws and policies which goes in a circle not bringing optimum result and outcome will keep the nation as a developing or third world for years to come.

Politicians, academicians etc should put aside their selfish and self centred interest for the prosperity of the nation. The fear of losing popularity or fear being victimised should not become an obstacle.

If people in power and influence are not able to contribute to national building in the correct and rightful trajectory towards”oneness” being the key, the day of reckoning will soon arrive, which will be too late for them to do anything.

Each individual should always be conscious of the day of arrival of that, ” last breath” which  is the day of reckoning to all whether you are a Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Buddist, Baha’is, atheist or of any ideological fellower.

Contributing to mankind positively within a person’s capacity and resources will facilitate and ease  the process of the “last breath” from the mortal to the immortal with dignity and satisfaction.

Don’t fool our own self that the “last breath” is far off for us. It will be sooner than ever. Let’s be a Malaysian who jubilantly breathes the “last breath” with spiritual dignity and satisfaction not in vain.
