Honda M’sia recalls 702 City Hybrids, Civics over camera, seatbelt issues

THE local office of Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda today announced a proactive product recall involving 702 City Hybrid 2021 and Civic 2022 models.

The product recall, as part of a precautionary safety measure, involves 630 City Hybrids manufactured in 2021 and 72 Civics from the 2022 cycle.

The City Hybrids are being recalled to replace the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) cameras fitted in the front windscreens of the vehicles.

“The camera may not operate properly and cause ADAS to be inactive when driving,” Honda Malaysia said in a statement.

The Civics, on the other hand, are being recalled to rectify a faulty welding point at the slide adjuster in the driver seat – a problem which may cause the driver seats to not be fixed in position when driving and compromise the seatbelt protection for drivers.

Honda Malaysia apologised for the inconvenience caused to affected customers but said the product recall was necessary as customer safety is their top priority, adding that they wanted to uphold transparency and stringent controls for its customers.

All affected customers will be informed via notification letters, which will include details of the product recall.

“Honda Malaysia urges all affected customers to contact any Honda authorised dealer to make an appointment upon receipt of the notification to have their vehicles checked and repaired, if required, subject to parts availability.

“The inspection, repair and replacement of the affected parts are free of charge and all costs related to this recall activity will be borne by Honda Malaysia,” they added.

Honda Malaysia also encouraged customers to download and update their details via the HondaTouch app for further verification of this recall.

Honda Malaysia also sought to reassure the public that other current productions and selling models are not affected by this product recall.

“As of today, there are no incidences of crashes or injuries caused by this issue reported in Malaysia,” the company added. – Sept 20, 2022
