Honda recalls 2,784 units of Accord and CR-V models

HONDA Malaysia has recalled 2,784 units of its 1999 Year Model (Accord) and 2000 Year Model (CR-V) cars for the replacement of their Takata driver front airbag inflator in line with its global Non-Azide Driver Airbag Inflator (NADI) recall exercise.

The affected models involved 1,389 units of the Accord and 1,404 units of the CR-V.

“The company believes this product recall is necessary as a preventive measure to address the possibility of the Takata driver front airbag inflator having excessive internal pressure and thus, causing the airbag to fail to function properly or to rupture.”

“As at today, there is no report in Malaysia of any incidence or injury caused by the Takata driver front airbag in these two year model vehicles,” the car manufacturer pointed out in a media release.

Affected customers will be informed via notification letters which will include details of the product recall. Honda Malaysia urges all affected customers to contact any Honda’s authorised dealer to make an appointment upon receipt of notification to replace the driver front airbag inflator subject to parts availability.

“The company also encourages public who have relatives or friends owning these two models to immediately contact Honda Malaysia to arrange for the driver front airbag replacement,” noted Honda Malaysia.

“During this critical time, Honda Malaysia is taking all necessary precaution at its dealerships nationwide to protect the well-being of its valued customers and Honda associates.”

The replacement of the affected Takata drive front airbag inflator is free-of-charge and all cost related to this replacement activity will be borne by Honda Malaysia. The replacement stock will be available in stages.

Affected customers can call Honda Malaysia’s toll free number at 1-800-88-2020 or visit www.honda.com.my / productrecall.honda.com.my to check their vehicle status. – Nov 26, 2020
