Hopes for a double victory at the Korea Open crashes with Pearly–Thinaah’s defeat

HOPES of a double victory for Malaysia’s doubles camp at the Korea Open were dashed when the women’s pair Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan fell short in the final earlier today.

Earlier, the mixed doubles duo Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei had opened the final day at Mokpo Indoor Stadium by claiming the Super 500 title, but Pearly–Thinaah were unable to carry that momentum forward.

The world number nine pair, Pearly-Thinaah, were defeated by the home team, Jeong Na Eun–Kim Hye Jeong, with a score of 21-12, 21-11, missing out on their first title of the season.

Both pairs displayed a balanced and cautious approach in the first set, but Na Eun-Hye Jeong surged ahead midway through the set to secure a 21-12 victory.

In the second set, Pearly-Thinaah attempted a comeback, but the 20th-ranked pair, Na Eun-Hye Jeong, were better prepared, aiming for their first title of the season.

Midway through the game, Na Eun-Hye Jeong extended their lead further, winning 21-11. – Sept 1, 2024
