Horrifying footage shows lorry reversing into the road, killing biker and damaging a vehicle

WILL Malaysians ever be safe on the road? Just a quick browse through the cyberspace and anyone could see the numerous tragedies involving vehicles.

However, as of late, it appears that heavy vehicles are taking up the news, racking up an increasing number of body counts. Just recently in a video post on X, it is no other than a lorry.

The video captured the horror of the entire scene, showing the lorry making a disastrous reverse into the road.

Unfortunately for a motorcyclist, he came right into the path of the lorry, falling down as it rolled right over him. The lorry stopped only after the length of its entire body crossed the opposing lane, smashing into another car, albeit causing minimal damage.

However, the same cannot be said for the motorcyclist who passed away, leaving three children behind.

More than just a video to serve one’s morbid fascination, it also underlines the problem of large, heavy vehicles being a danger to people on the road.

The video post has since drawn numerous netizens, who either condemned the lorry driver or called for better measures to promote road safety.

Netizen Shafiq Rahman said the family of the victim as well as the car owner should sue the company and the driver.

“Likely we will need to go down to the road and make a picket like Bersih last time. All the talking doesn’t work although the problem of these lorries can be seen,” said Shafiq Rahman.

“When will the Road Transport Department make a huge ops on these land pilots? Motorcyclists are the first people you like to issue a summon but for these lorry drivers that cause deaths, you people are slow,” said NantiFikirNama.

Another netizen suggested the death penalty for the lorry driver who hit people just for the fun of it.

black cat foodie even tagged the transport minister, calling for his attention to act fast on the matter.

“The rules and regulations involving these lorries should be tightened. Bangsar South is not only an office area but there are many parents who take their children from school using bikes,” said black cat foodie.

For a clearer picture of the incident, the Head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa has come forward to make a statement.

According to him, the accident involved a Modenas Kriss motorcycle, a lorry, and a Honda Jazz car.

“The lorry driver, a 32-year-old man, was inside a construction site with the lorry he was driving to refill the brake fluid,” he said.

While the brake fluid was being refilled, the lorry suddenly reversed on its own, crashing into a safety gate and onto the main road, where it struck the motorcycle ridden by a 32-year-old man.

The victim fell and got trapped under the right rear tire of the lorry, and was confirmed dead at the scene.

Zamzuri added that the lorry also hit a car in the adjacent lane, injuring the car driver on the forehead.

“The lorry driver has been detained for further investigation under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said. —Nov 24, 2024
