Letter to Editor
I REFER to the postings in the Linkedin by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) subsequent to the first Micro-credential Technical Working Committee Meeting held this week.
It was reported that a total of 22 employers and industry representatives attended the meeting and that they were given a briefing on the micro-credentialing (MC) scheme and that MC is the way forward.
My question is how could they claim whatever they claim when they have not even got the complete programme in order as highlighted by the detailed, comprehensive and well-researched letter by Datuk Razali Mahfar entitled “Very Long and Winding Road Awaits HRD Corp’s Micro-Credential Initiative” (Focus Malaysia, July 1, 2022).
Razali has raised so many pertinent questions including the point that the HRD Corp’s micro-credentialing is not even listed in the Malaysian Qualifications Agency’ (MQA) website at the point of his writing on June 29 and the question of credit transfers, duration of training, contact hours and many other details remain unanswered.
I would urge all employers representative including the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF), Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and others, including the foreign chambers of commerce in Malaysia to be very discerning and extremely cautious and careful in agreeing to this proposed HRD Corp’s scheme.
No matter what, we should not agree nor be a party to a scheme that compels and forces the employers to fork out more money.
The employers will not succumb to any scheme which is compulsory in nature for it is their own money and they know best how to train their employees based the peculiar, special and technical needs of each industry.
It must also be reminded that even though the employers’ representatives are permitted to advance the business interests of the employers at large in general terms, it does not give the said representatives any inherent right to decide on matters that have grave financial implications to the companies and business entities.
My HR Leaders’ WhatsApp group has more than 160 members and none of them have been consulted and all of them do not agree to the scheme being compulsory and to any charges being imposed by the HRD Corp.
Please do not hoodwink and rob the employers. – July 8, 2022
