HSS secures RM145m Pan Borneo Highway Sabah works portion

ENGINEERING and project management consultant HSS Engineers Bhd (HEB) has leveraged on its past experience to secure its latest RM144.9 mil appointment as the project management consultant for Phase 1 of the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah.

HEB Group’s unit HSS Integrated Sdn Bhd (HSSI) accepted the appointment from the Government to undertake the 63-month works which include administration and supervision management, commencing April 2021.

HSSI’s latest role as the project management consultant for Pan Borneo Highway Sabah has a much larger scope of works than its previous mandate as the independent consulting engineer for the same highway which was completed in December 2020.

“HSSI’s combination of strong local knowledge and right international experience has also led to for the successful delivery of several key highway projects such as Maju Expressway (MEX), KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) and the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE),” commented HSS Engineers’ executive vice chairman Tan Sri Kuna Sittampalam.

HSSI is also currently involved in key infrastructure projects including the 2,300-acre Kwasa Damansara Township Development in Sungai Buloh, the delivery management office for all development projects (physical works) for the Northern Corridor Investment Authority (NCIA) and for the proposed expansion and construction of a new healthcare facility for Institut Jantung Negara.

Internationally, project management consultant (PMC) is a very common and useful mode for project execution.

HSSI has thus far provided project management services for the successful delivery of 5,500 units of houses for the national affordable housing scheme located in Belait, Muara and Tutong district, Brunei.

Further elaborating on the Group’s PMC experience – this time in India – Kuna said the HEB group was consulted by the Indian Government on the merits of the PMC model for execution of infrastructure projects within scheduled time and appropriate quality within acceptable cost.

“The PMC model prioritises the standardisation of functional, administrative and procurement of equipment and requirements as well as smooth coordination of works within stakeholders,” explained Kuna.

“At the same time, the PMC provides accountability, responsibility and risk management to establish a single line of responsibility and centralised control for ease of coordination.”
