ALTHOUGH charity should at best begin at home, seven popular local icons will be flying to Tanzania in East Africa from on July 6 for a two-week African Humanitarian Mission.
Organised by Impactive Malaysia (IM), the mission which focuses on educational and economic development will be a second for the IM team following their maiden mission in 2017.
For this mission, IM aims to raise as much as RM1.2 mil to fund projects that will be included in the mission such as the distribution of sacrificial meat, school supply aid, Quran endowment, and undertaking school repairs.
The seven local icons who will participate in this mission consist of celebrities, TV personalities, entrepreneurs and social media influencers, namely Hazeman Huzir, Farah Lee, Nadzmi Adhwa, Akhi Fairuz, Que Yahaya, Nazirul, and corporate personality Aiman Hakim from Isosynergy Holdings Sdn Bhd.
In conjunction with the forthcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha next month, the mission plan to distribute 100 sacrificial cows, 100 akikah (sacrifice of livestock on the occasion of a child’s birth) goats, and 500kg of meat to the Muslim community in Tanzania.
IM’s founder Mohamad Khairul Jamain said the humanitarian mission is intended to help the Muslim community in Tanzania who is often oppressed and marginalised.
From the total population of 1.02 billion in the continent, 446 million Africans are Muslims. As for Tanzania, the Muslim population makes up 34.1% of the country’s population.
“This is very contrasting to the other (African) countries where their majority are also Muslims; therefoe, the Muslim community in Tanzania is often being marginalised and not been given much attention,” Khairul pointed out in a media statement.
“Our focal point is the districts of Handeni and Kilendi which according to our local partner, the Islamic Help team, both districts are the poorest and most in need of assistance in Tanzania.”
Khairul said he puts high faith and trust in the seven icons given their credentials as information agents to share and spread news of the mission to their respective followers.
“This mission is not just about IM’s efforts alone but is made possible with the help of our fellow humanitarian icons who are participating,” he shared.
“These seven icons have been active spokespersons in highlighting humanitarian issues. They are not being chosen randomly. In fact, some of them are already a part of the IM team itself.” – June 10, 2022
