“I didn’t lose,” Ahmad Dusuki insists despite withdrawal of appeal against Mujahid

FORMER PAS ulama council member Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani has denied that he has lost following the withdrawal of his appeal against a High Court ruling in a defamation suit against Senator Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

On the contrary, Ahmad Dusuki claimed that he had succeeded in saving the properties and assets of Tabung Haji (TH) contributors that are worth hundreds of millions of ringgit.

“I lost? No, I managed to save assets worth close to RM300 mil belonging to TH contributors,” he insisted via a Facebook post yesterday (Aug 30).

“(The money) was paid as a deposit to Tamaco Plantation Sdn Bhd which had been sold during the Pakatan Harapan administration. (The transaction) was however cancelled during the Perikatan Nasional era.”

Ahmad Dusuki had initially filed for defamation over a Twitter (now known as X) post by Mujahid in November 2020, which claimed that Ahmad Dusuki had lied about Tabung Haji assets being sold to non-Muslims during Mujahid’s tenure as minister in the prime minister’s department (religious affairs).

Mujahid said his lawyer Noorazmir Zakaria had informed him that Ahmad Dusuki withdrew his appeal at the Putrajaya Court of Appeal and had to pay RM5,000 in fees.

Bernama quoted Mujahid as saying yesterday that Ahmad Dusuki withdrawing the appeal has put an end to the “episode of slander” that Ahmad Dusuki and PAS had been spinning for a long time especially when he (Mujahid) was the religious affairs minister.

Mujahid said the Shah Alam Sessions Court had dismissed the suit. Subsequently, the High Court also dismissed the appeal brought by Dusuki, he added.

“Now, with the action of Dusuki who has withdrawn his appeal (at the Court of Appeal), it proves that Dusuki has finally agreed that Tabung Haji assets were not sold to non-Muslims,” he was reported as saying.

“I am grateful that my name has finally been cleared… hopefully with this, all the slander that has been floating around for so long regarding the Tabung Haji issue will end.” – Aug 31, 2023
