FORMER Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has made it clear that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri’s new Government should prioritise two things – the welfare of the people, and the country’s performance.
“Now is not the time to say ‘we have tried our best’ but yet still fail time and again. We have the experience and more importantly, we have the data. So please, use the data, and use the science,” he said on his Facebook page.
According to Najib, it has been three months and ten days (102 days) since MCO 3.0 began, and two months and seven days (68 days) since the announcement of the National Recovery Plan.

“Yet we are still breaking our own records of daily COVID-19 cases almost every day, and we are still ranked top ten in the world in terms of COVID-19 cases reported.
“We have hit a cumulative total of 260,000 active cases, and Malaysia’s total COVID-19 caseload has passed the one-million mark on July 25. In less than a month since then, we have even passed the 1.5 million mark,” he lamented.
Najib went on to point out that Fitch Solutions Country Risk and Industry Research had recently lowered Malaysia’s real gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast this year to 0% from 4.9% previously.
Meanwhile, the country’s stock market is still the worst performing market in Asia Pacific and the second worse performing in the world, he added.
He further highlighted the rakyat’s uncertainties about being out and about despite the Government recently easing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“To revive the economy, we need to gain the upper hand when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we have to come up with more solutions to help the people for the sake of their survival,” he concluded. – Aug 22, 2021.
