If Bushehr is hit you might get an ‘accident on the scale of Fukushima’ : Analysis

It would be very dangerous if the Bushehr facility, which contains two large reactors, one of which is still under construction, were bombed, Robert Kelly, a former IAEA inspector and distinguished fellow at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, tells Al Jazeera.

“If it were hit with a bomb or the cooling systems were interrupted, you might get an accident on the scale of Fukushima, where the reactor would melt down inside its building and maybe release small amounts of gas into the environment”, he said, adding that nobody was killed at Fukushima, and the radiation “didn’t go very far”. —June 22, 2025
