CLAIMING that his arrest is a conspiracy to build a narrative of his guilt, PAS warlord-cum-caretaker Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has corrected the statement made by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain that he had refused to answer phone calls made to him prior to his 3am arrest yesterday (July 18).
He explained that he had communicated with a police officer from Bukit Aman from 10pm on Monday (July 17) to 2am on the day of the incident and even requested not to arrest him.
In detailing out his claim of “conspiracy” against him, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director further noted that his case was registered at the Selayang Sessions Court after 5pm on Monday (July 17) which was outside office hours.
“Apart from the fact that such a situation rarely happens, he (Sanusi) also found out that he had to appear in court through online news without any notice being given to him,” PAS mouthpiece HarakahDaily narrated Sanusi’s side of the story.
“On that day alone (Monday, July 17), he attended three meetings since the morning and during those meetings, he received a call from the police officer concerned of which all communications were recorded.”
According to Sanusi, after he finished his last meeting at 11:40pm, he was asked to show up at the Sri Hartamas police station or any police station when he wanted to return to his hotel to take a shower and rest.
This was intended for him to resume his testimony pertaining to the investigation conducted against him but he suspected an arrest would ensue as the testimony had to be made in a specific investigation format.
“So, I gave a 100% guarantee that I will be at the Selayang Sessions Court at 9am. No need to arrest me because I’ve nowhere to run. After all, I’m the MB (but) he (the officer) still wanted me to turn up (at the police station),” recalled Sanusi.
In fact, at 12.30 am yesterday (July 18), he did convey a WhatsApp message requesting for him not to be arrested to a senior police officer.
“Datuk Seri, please don’t make (an arrest) tonight because tomorrow (July 18) I will appear at the Selayang Sessions Court. Any further investigation process can be done after that. It’s past midnight now,” revealed Sanusi of his message content.
“I haven’t had a break since morning. Don’t tell me you want me to continue my testimony at this odd hour. We will meet after the court case tomorrow for more statements.”
However, he confirmed that the police came knocking on his room’s door at 2:30am whereby he requested to take a shower and had a cup of coffee before following the police officers who had been assigned to escort him to the police station.
Nevertheless, the Kedah PAS deputy commissioner praised the professionalism of the police officers who were entrusted to arrest him. However, he was taken aback as the large number of police officers could give the public the impression that the person to be arrested was a criminal even when there were not many people around at that time.
“I requested not to be handcuffed. It makes a person look like a criminal if they are handcuffed. So, there was no handcuff when I was taken to the Gombak police station. Also, I wasn’t put in a lockup but placed in a meeting room instead,” he added. – July 19, 2023
