Imperial’s holiday programme a hit with students

ACTING on parents’ feedback for a need for meaningful activities to keep their children occupied, Imperial International School (Imperial) organised a school holiday programme titled The Lost Valley of Chief Powhaten.

Held at Imperial’s Ipoh campus from July 25–27, the programme was open to both Imperial students as well as the general public.

“The main objective was to have outdoor activities to stimulate the participants both mentally and physically,” explained Imperial marketing and admissions manager Renita Simmunjalam.

“This was something parents were very keen on after almost two years of lockdown which severely curtailed children’s’ outdoor activities.

“The almost limitless energy displayed by the participants certainly showed they were eager for some outdoor activities as well.”

Held in collaboration with Awesome Tribes, the holiday camp was designed to improve participants’ social and life skills.

Team-building activities were core to the proceedings as participants were challenged to communicate effectively and build rapport with their respective tribe members.

“Despite having been a trainer for close to two decades, the endless energy and enthusiasm of the children never fails to amaze me,” remarked Darren Suresh, the coach for this event.

“The younger female participants, in particular, were so enthusiastic and full of thoughtfulness for their fellow tribe members. Kudos to the organising committee for curating this event which really taught the participants some valuable lessons.”

Renita went on to highlight that Imperial’s teaching philosophy extends beyond classrooms and normal school terms.

“We want to ensure students use their holiday time appropriately. The holiday programme which was parked under the ‘You Belong Here’ campaign was an opportunity for them to learn new things in a fun and secure environment,” she said.

“The Lost Valley of Chief Powhaten does precisely that. We are pleased that everyone had a great time.”

These sentiments were echoed by student Siew Qi Bin (Year 6) who was so enthused that he wanted the next holiday camp to run for a week instead of just three days.

Fellow student Meera Raaji Rajkumar (Year 1) said it was her first holiday camp and expressed hopes to participating in the next one.

The positive response to the holiday camp had spurred Imperial’s administrators to consider having an encore later in the year with the possibility of doing it in a venue outside of campus to allow for more activities.
