Influencer couple, 2 others remanded to assist MACC’s probe into RM3m misappropriation of donation funds

A MARRIED couple who are also social media influencers – alongside two male accomplices – have been remanded for four days starting today (July 11) to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in an investigation over embezzlement of public donation funds amounting to RM3 mil.

All four suspects – including the two men who are believed to be directors of a fundraising platform – have also been remanded for four days until July 14.

All four suspects aged between 20 and 30 were arrested between 6.30pm and 11pm last night (July 10) when they appeared to give evidence at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

Following the arrest, all the suspects were brought to the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court this morning following which Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued a four-day remand order.

Bernama reported that all four suspects arrived at the Magistrate’s Court at 9.18am wearing the orange MACC lock-up uniforms and were handcuffed during their court appearance.

“The suspects who are the married couple are believed to have committed the act since 2020 by embezzling collections meant as donation that were not channelled to the intended recipients,” a source close to the case pointed out.

“It is estimated that the donations involved reached about RM3 mil and investigation is still at the preliminary stage.”

Meanwhile, MACC’s senior director (investigation division) Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim when contacted confirmed the arrest and said the case was investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. – July 11, 2024
