Insults on non-Muslims: Silence is no longer acceptable, NGO tells politicians

MALAYSIAN Cabinet Ministers and MPs must address rising insults against non-Muslims at the Parliament immediately, according to the Global Human Rights Federation.

Its president S Shashikumar said this after leading a team of nearly 100 individuals to lodge multiple reports against Islamic preacher Syakir Nasoha for alleging that Hindus, Buddhists and Dayaks are plotting to annihilate Muslims.

“And I wish to see our Malay-Muslim MPs raise the matter at the Parliament,” he told FocusM.

Yesterday, FocusM published several videos showing Syakir making disparaging remarks against Hindus, Buddhists and the Dayak community.

In one footage, the preacher was seen saying that Hindus and Buddhists are bent to destroy Muslims and Islam.

“The Prophet had said in the hadith that in the end of times, the enemies of Islam will surround you like people hungry for food. The infidels will come to kill Muslims,” he said.

Syakir added that while the “leaders” of the infidels would be Christians and Jews, there are those from other faiths would be involved, too.

“Who are the ones bombing mosques? Is it America or Israel? No, it’s the Buddhists. Who are killing Muslims in Pakistan and India? It’s the Hindus.

“And remember people who practice those faiths are here in Malaysia too. They don’t like Islam and want to destroy us Muslims,” he stated.

In another footage, Syakir accused the Dayak community of butchering and raping Muslims in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

In the report lodged at the police station, Shashikumar described Syakir as a “threat to the peaceful co-existence of multiracial, multi religious and multicultural society in Malaysia”.

“This report is lodged in the larger interest of our beloved country for the police to investigate and take appropriate action against such an offender who flouts the laws of Malaysia,” the report reads.

Dayaks lodge reports too

On that note, Shashikumar accused the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) of hypocrisy for keeping mum over insults against non-Muslims.

“Part of JAKIM’s job scope is to protect religious harmony in Malaysia. In recent times, the agency keeps complaining that Islam under attack and they needed tougher laws to deal with it.

“But when it comes to Islamic preachers insulting the minorities, they keep quiet,” he lashed out.

Shashikumar then targeted National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique and told her to quit if she cannot perform her job.

“Table the National Harmony and Reconciliation Bill soon or pass the baton to someone else who can do the job,” he stated.

On related matter, Dayak-based non-governmental organisation Persatuan Terabai Menua said that its members have lodged multiple reports in Miri and Kuching against the preacher.

“We are aghast and dissatisfied. How can Syakir accuse the Dayak community of killing and raping Muslims in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea?” its representative Kindy anak Nyadand told FocusM.

He remarked: “We will raise the matter with the higher authorities. Politicians should not keep silent and do something about this now.” – Oct 3, 2021.
