Inter-state travel allowed starting tomorrow, MyTravelPass binned

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that inter-state travels will be allowed starting tomorrow as 90% of the Malaysian adult population have been fully vaccinated.

On that note, he also said that the MyTravelPass will no longer be used as those who are fully vaccinated will be allowed to travel abroad as well.

“The new ruling will take effect tomorrow and I would like to thank my Malaysian Family for making the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) a success,” he said, in a live telecast today.

As for the MyTravelPass, Ismail said that the registry would be abolished soon and Malaysians can now freely travel domestically and abroad, including for tourism purposes.

“But once you return from abroad, you must undergo the compulsory 14-days quarantine period. Unless there are special circumstances involved, you can undergo quarantine at home,” Ismail said.

However, he stressed that the relaxation of rules depends on several conditions; the primary being the individual must have received both shots of the vaccines.

“Bear in mind that Act 342 on public health is still in force to ensure strict adhere to the COVID-19 standard operating procedure (SOP).

“Though we will not have specific roadblocks to check on your vaccination status, the police can still conduct random checks and demand to see your inoculation status on the MySejahtera app.

“And we will not permit to and from travels on areas designated under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO),” Ismail mentioned.

Despite relaxing rules on inter-state travels, the prime minister reminded everyone to adhere strictly to the SOP and take responsibility to ensure their loved ones are kept away from infection risks.

Adhere to SOP, get tested before travelling

With that, Ismail urged the public to test themselves using the RTK Antigen test kit before travelling, as the latter has 98% accuracy in detecting COVID-19 infection.

He added that restaurateurs, offices, shopping malls, gymnasium and sports facility operators must continue checking their patrons’ vaccination status using the MySejahtera app to prevent COVID-19 outbreak at their premises.

“To those who argue that there is no point in getting inoculated as the vaccinated still get infected with COVID-19, I wish to say that the vaccinated only ends up under Category 1 or 2 after getting infected by the virus.

“Plus, the vaccines reduced intensive care unit admissions by 80% and prevented fatalities by a whopping 88.3%,” Ismail stressed.

On related matter, Ismail assured the public that the country would not impose a blanket movement control order in the future if COVID-19 outbreak soars.

“We will only look at locking down the particular locality where the outbreak is detected,” he said.

On when children aged 12 years and below will be allowed to get vaccinated, Ismail remarked: “The Health Ministry will decide on this soon.” – Oct 10, 2021.
