PAS has called the dissolution of Parliament in the near term “inappropriate”, saying that this is because the country is focusing on economic recovery and flood season preparations.
PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party will continue negotiations with the other parties to unite the “ummah” and avoid head-to-head clashes (during the elections) to defeat Pakatan Harapan.
“PAS is of the opinion that the interest of the nation and people’s welfare comes first. This includes economic recovery measures, including Budget 2023, which will be tabled this Friday (Oct 7),” he said.
Hadi’s statement came after the UMNO Supreme Council had insisted that Parliament must be dissolved as soon as possible to pave the way for the 15th General Election (GE15) by year-end to return the mandate to the people.
The Marang MP also indicated that PAS will continue pursuing ties with both the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition (of which Bersatu is part of) and the Muafakat Nasional political pact with UMNO.
“PAS will continue discussions and negotiations with all political parties, NGOs, academics, and community leaders in order to fulfil our agenda to unite the ummah (Muslim community),” Hadi said in a statement today (Oct 4).
“We want to find common ground and avoid facing each other (during elections) in order to defeat Pakatan Harapan.”

It was previously reported that UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had outlined three conditions for the revival of the Muafakat pact with the Islamic party.
He said PAS must cut ties with Bersatu, exit the Perikatan Nasional coalition and publicly announce its decision.
Interestingly, last month PN chairperson Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he and Hadi had reaffirmed their commitment to the coalition, with Muhyiddin saying that Hadi was intent on harmony and insisted that there was no chance of PAS leaving PN. – Oct 4, 2022
