IOI Corporation: US CBP has not sanctioned us, Rani’s statement misleading

WE would like to refer to an article published by Focus Malaysia entitled “Forced labour: Trampling human dignity for big bucks!” dated Dec 19.

The article, written by Rani Rasiah from Migrant Workers’ Right to Redress Coalition, claimed that IOI uses forced labour in our migrant workforce dependent operations in Malaysia, and our products were banned by the US Customs and Border Protection (US CBP), as well as dropped from supply chains.

We take this claim seriously as it is factually incorrect and has negative repercussions on our investors and stakeholders. To date, the US CBP has not issued any Withhold Release Order (WRO), nor taken any other action to ban IOI’s palm oil products in the US.

IOI is a responsible and exemplary company which respects labour rights and adheres to Malaysian labour laws as well as international labour standards. – Dec 21, 2021.
