Is communism halal now? PAS members take photos with “communist” Lee Hsien Loong

WHILE THE concept of haram and halal is set in stone by the holy Quran, Malaysian politics has a way of bending even the words of god.

Recently, a netizen pointed out PAS’s hypocrisy for being so chummy with Lee Hsien Loong, Singapore’s senior minister.

In the post, the chief minister of Terengganu and government staff were seen with senior minister Lee, taking photos in front of the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge.

This shouldn’t be a problem if not for the fact that the Islamic party has been conveniently gaining political brownie points in the past for attacking PAP.

Recall PAS MP Siti Masturah who alleged that “Lim Kuan Yew”, Lim Kit Siang and Chin Peng are cousins.

So why the friendship with the communists now? The answer is simple, that in the field of politics, it is all about making alliances of convenience.

Netizens were quick to react to the post, with @AwatifWardina pointing out an article in the past quoting PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang who rejected DAP for being communists, similar to PAP.

Also, @DoeRaeMond said they were willing to raise the bridge and stop the traffic just to have a photo with him.

“They closed the road just for the sake of taking photos with a communist,” echoed @amrosid4.

“Halal for us. Haram for you,” added @mzmr_rosli sarcastically.

Then there was @binjitt claiming that if Lee came to Selangor, they would spin a story saying that Selangor wants to sell Malaysia to Singapore.

Netizen @maulcoal also wondered if there are no other landmarks in Terengganu beside the bridge.

“That is the close friend of Zionist Israel. PAS doesn’t know this?” asked@Mcmanamy99.

On another note, news portal the Mothership in an article dated 2022 quoted Hadi who said DAP in Penang promoted Malay candidates as a political tool.

Also, Hadi alleged that Lee Kuan Yew did something similar in Singapore by supposedly “using Malay parties”.

According to Hadi, this is why DAP is backing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the leader of Pakatan Harapan (PH), as their prime ministerial candidate.

“It is unclear what Abdul Hadi is talking about, as the PAP has not worked with Malay parties in its history,” said Mothership.

The news portal continued, adding that DAP has a historical connection to PAP, as they were formed by PAP members in Malaysia after Singapore left the federation in 1965.

However, since then there have been no official links between the parties. —May 11, 2026
