Is Hari Raya going to be as quiet as CNY with new COVID-19 cases spiking?

MALAYSIA’S rate of COVID-19 infections faced a massive spike today, reporting at 1,854 new cases, dimming the light for the movement control order (MCO) to be loosened by the Hari Raya festive season.

Things look especially grim for Sarawakians as the state recorded the highest number of new infections (555) today, even beating Selangor’s numbers of 403.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, 292 of the new cases were close contacts with positive cases while 124 were detected through the screening of individuals in active clusters.

There are also three fatalities today, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,311.

A total of 1,247 patients were discharged today. – April 9, 2021
