Isham Jalil: “They kicked me out from WhatsApp group, no official letter”

FORMER UMNO information chief Datuk Isham Jalil has been ousted from the party, as confirmed by sources from the UMNO supreme council meeting held last night (Dec 6).

While Isham acknowledged hearing about his removal, he claimed that he has not received any official notification.

“I have not received any letter. What I know is they have kicked me out from the UMNO supreme council’s WhatsApp group,” Malaysiakini quoted him as saying.

The decision to expel Isham was reportedly made by consensus during the supreme council meeting, with reasons cited including his public criticism of the party’s leadership and his labeling of UMNO as a “barua” (lackey) of the DAP.

Three sources, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed these details and also mentioned that Isham had missed four previous supreme council meetings.

Meanwhile, UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday challenged Isham to attend the meeting and address his concerns directly. However, Isham declined the offer, further emphasising the growing discord within the party.

Moreover, Isham had been appointed as UMNO’s information chief and was elected to the supreme council earlier this year in March. The party, as of now, has not released an official statement regarding Isham’s removal from the position. – Dec 7, 2023
