Ismail Sabri denies BN MPs have withdrawn support for Unity Government

FORMER Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has firmly denied rumors circulating on social media that he and 13 other BN MPs have withdrawn support from the Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He emphasised that BN remains fully committed to the government, dismissing the claims as old and baseless, though persistent.

Ismail Sabri suggested that the rumors might stem from malicious intent or slander aimed at tarnishing his image and creating division among BN MPs.

He highlighted BN’s consistent support, including unanimous backing of a confidence motion and government bills by all 30 BN MPs.

“In fact, this story is old, and initially, I didn’t want to entertain it because it’s untrue, but it has persisted through writings and videos.

“So finally, I felt compelled to respond. These claims that we have withdrawn are not true. In reality, no one has left UMNO or BN. Instead, we remain in the government,” he told Sinar Ahad.

“I consider it possible that there’s ill intent when such stories are spread, especially about me, which tarnishes my image, even though I’ve always said I remain with UMNO. It’s also slander aimed at dividing our relationships and creating doubts among BN MPs,” he said.

He made these statements hoping to end the speculation. —Mar 23, 2025
